Learn how to create creatures by using techniques and back stories inspired by master artist and creator Hayao Miyazaki. Using watercolors, color pencils or acrylic markets students will learn color theory, shapes, shading and mood to create a fantastical character that has a deep connection with its audience. Students are also welcome to recreate famous characters.

In this camp, artists will explore the world of surrealism and learn about surrealist artists. During the first two days, they will focus on realism, building a strong foundation in light, shading, perspective, scale, and composition. For the rest of the camp, they will dive into surrealism, using their creativity to transform the ordinary into the unexpected—just as surrealist artists have turned clocks into melting forms or replaced heads with floating fruit. Students will be encouraged to develop their own dreamlike concepts or study master artists for inspiration. Materials will include colored pencils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, and pen and ink.

This camp will center around artists learning to create their own character designs. They will be invited to learn from other artists and then encouraged to create their own characters. They will learn how to use human anatomy mixed with insect or animal aspects to create mystical creatures. In the first half of the day, students will work with Ronny to develop 2D artworks. In the second half of the day, artists will work with a different teacher on cosplay and mask designs. Skills learned will include animal and human anatomy, expression through color choices, shading, and inking and sculpting.

In this very exciting art camp artists will learn how to create their own monsters and mischievous characters by acquiring an understanding of scale, perspective, sketching, character design and emotional expression, movement and action. Also, students will learn about the history of the Kaiju and the mythology behind Yokai. Watch out for toasters chasing buttery steaming toast or giant orange cats who loudly stomp around watching as a village of farmer mice scatter! Yikes!

By mashing together the realistic with the fantastical students will gain skills in creating new creatures or animals that enjoy everyday human activities such as sipping tea while wearing a bowl gown! Students are encouraged to find the humorous and sometimes odd world around them for inspiration. Materials used include: color pencils, pen and ink, watercolors and pastels.

Students should bring a snack for the day, water (please no soda, boba or sticky sugary drinks), and a sketchbook (optional). We will be offering some light snacks - please let us know if your child has a serious allergy or health issues we should be aware of. Aprons will be available for messy projects, but we encourage students to wear clothes that they are not too attached to.

The mission of our summer program is to create a safe, fun and relaxing environment for students to grow, make friends and learn extensively about art. It is crucial for the school to create a space where everyone is welcomed, feels safe and supported. Any of my summer classes may offer: games, social time and relationship building, short video tutorials, media entertainment, prizes and treats, social and emotional support, books or time to relax.
