Youth Art Classes

Youth Art Classes at Art School Santa Fe are geared towards students ages 5-14. Classes are offered as group lessons or private instruction.

Framework

Because every student is unique and progresses on their art journey at their own pace, Students at Art School Santa Fe learn within a loose framework of lessons catering to their personal skill levels and progress. In any given class session, there is a blend of students each working on their own individual lessons at their own pace.

Beginner Basic Lessons: These lessons offer a large variety of basic skill building techniques for fine art. Students learn how to create compositions with the use of shapes, sketching, and lights and shadows. In these lessons students use pencils, chalk pastels, and colored pencils.

Intermediate Lessons: In these lessons we build on our foundational concepts and techniques and introduce watercolors, perspective, still life, and landscape painting. In these lessons we also explore imagination building and artistic voice in art creations.

Advanced Lessons: Concepts such as life drawing, portraits of animals and humans, tones, composition, linear perspective, landscape painting, still life painting, imagination, and artist voice are all used in these lessons. The mediums focused on in this time are charcoal and oil painting.

Open Studio

Open Studio is a gently guided class for experienced students who are ready to work more independently.

This class is best suited for students who already have a foundation in art techniques, are comfortable beginning and developing their own projects, or thrive with less direct instruction. Students receive support, feedback, and guidance as needed.

Open Studio is ideal for students who are self-motivated, focused, and ready for a more independent art-making experience within a supportive studio environment.

Master Class

Our Master Class program is an instructed curriculum focused on Old Master techniques and serious artistic development.

Unlike our flexible youth classes, Master Class is designed for students who are working toward mastery of art, not simply students who enjoy making art. This class is best suited for young artists who are ready for a more disciplined, focused, and skill-intensive approach to their practice.

Students in Master Class study traditional methods of drawing and painting with an emphasis on observation, technique, composition, value, form, and craftsmanship. The curriculum is structured to help students strengthen their technical foundation, refine their artistic eye, and develop the patience and discipline required for long-term artistic growth.

Master Class is intended for dedicated students who are prepared to take their work seriously, receive detailed instruction, and commit to the process of becoming stronger artists.

Super Skilled Student Pass

The Super Skilled Student Pass is available by invitation only to students who have completed at least three years of study at Art School Santa Fe.

This pass is designed for highly dedicated students who are ready for frequent, consistent studio practice. For a single semester fee of $350, plus a $40 materials fee, eligible students may attend unlimited approved classes during the month.

The Super Skilled Student Pass is intended for students who demonstrate focus, maturity, independence, and a strong commitment to continued artistic growth.
